We are fortunate to be affiliated with two very knowledgeable and skilled equine dentists.
Lameness originating from the foot is a very common problem. Conditions of the foot can be career limiting for performance horses and potentially life threatening for horses with conditions such as laminitis. We believe in a team effort combining the skills and knowledge of the farrier with that of the veterinarian. We utilize our diagnostic capabilities in order to determine the most appropriate therapeutic approach to trimming and shoeing our equine patients. If you have an established relationship with a farrier and would like him or her to trim or shoe your horse at our clinic with the assistance of our veterinarians, please contact the office to schedule such an appointment. Also, we are fortunate to have a working relationship with Roger Grow, a skilled and experienced area farrier who often performs services at our clinic. To schedule an appointment with Roger at
the clinic you may contact our office (814-443-3560).
The ability to get immediate results for various diagnostic tests is essential for determining a plan of action for your sick or injured horse. Complete blood cell counts, serum chemistry profiles, and lactate, electrolyte, and blood gas analysis are examples of important tests we can perform in our laboratory. Further procedures that we perform include bacterial cultures, antibiotic sensitivities, cytology, fecal exams, and more. Having the in-house lab helps us to make critical, time sensitive decisions for the care of your horse.
Stem Cell Therapy
Brown Equine Hospital is pleased to offer both adipose and bone marrow derived stem cell therapy. These exciting new treatments provide improved functional healing and decreased scar tissue formation in selected musculoskeletal injuries. Once isolated, the stem cells are also able to be banked and stored for continued therapy or future use. Through the use of these techniques, BEH is able to offer your horse the most current options in regenerative medicine. For an evaluation with one of our lameness experts or to discuss this treatment option please call the office at 814-443-3560.
